The movement for equality across the African continent is vastly growing in momentum, and it should be no surprise that the sporting industry is also pulling all the measures to ensure that women get all the support they can to excel on the sporting field.
The South African Women’s Cricket side is one of the few professional sporting teams at a national & international level (in the African continent) that recognise women in the sport as professional athletes. Title sponsors Momentum is a proud supporter of the movement having provided a great deal of financial aid and direction to the side.
The team is about to embark on a limited overs journey against a formidable English Women’s Cricket side. The two sides will lock horns in three ODIs and three T20 matches. The ODI matches will form part of the ICC Women’s Championship, which is the qualification process for the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup in England.
In addition, the games being televised internationally will truly elevate the game of women’s cricket and certainly increase participation levels at a grassroots level. This is a significant move to get the sporting industry open to all who want to partake. Sponsorship opportunities for both teams and players will see a rise, thanks to the games being televised. This will secure a bright future for all the women in sport. ©
